چکیده

Marching with essential survival equipment is a fundamental military exercise. A consequence of this increased load is an increased risk of dehydration. Dehydration may have fatal consequences in a combat situation where performance must be optimal. This risk can be minimized with an understanding of the additional fluid needs of soldiers marching when loaded compared to unloaded. The aim of this study was to quantify fluid loss caused by marching with a loaded Bergen rucksack and webbing of 33.5 kg for 45 minutes when compared to unloaded carriage in eight healthy male officer cadets (age, 20.5 ± 0.9 years; body mass 80.2 ± 9.2 kg). The findings demonstrate an increased rate of sweat loss (0.6 ± 0.2 L·h to 1.2 ± 0.4 L·h; p<0.001) and increased average heart rate (105.5 ± 17.7 beats·min to 136.6 ± 28.3 beats·min; p<0.001) for unloaded and loaded trial respectively. Urine osmolality significantly increased preto postmarch (p<0.05), however there was no difference in this increase between the loaded and unloaded trial. The present study demonstrated that marching with a loaded rucksack and webbing increased sweat rate by 100% compared to the same march with no additional load. For soldiers to prevent dehydration and the potential detrimental effects on performance, fluid replacement should also be doubled when marching with loading in a temperate environment, however individual differences in sweat rate should be taken into account.

A Chick Embryo in-Vitro Model of Knee Morphogenesis

Background: In this feasibility study, a mechanically loaded in-vitro tissue culture model of joint morphogenesis using the isolated lower extremity of the 8 day old chick embryo was developed to assess the effects of mechanical loading on joint morphogenesis. Methods: The developed in-vitro system allows controlled flexion and extension of the chick embryonic knee with a range of motion of ...

In vivo three-dimensional kinematics of the normal knee during active extension under unloaded and loaded conditions using single-plane fluoroscopy.

Measurement of the changes of the three-dimensional (3D) motion and surface kinematics of the knee under different external loading conditions is essential for the understanding and evaluation of the function of the joint, as well as for relevant clinical applications. Knee extension exercise (KEE) has been applied extensively in the rehabilitation programs of patients with various knee disorde...

Dynamic compression stimulates proteoglycan synthesis by mesenchymal stem cells in the absence of chondrogenic cytokines.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of dynamic compression on mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) chondrogenesis. Dynamic compression was applied to agarose hydrogels seeded with bone marrow-derived adult equine MSCs. In the absence of the chondrogenic cytokine transforming growth factor beta (TGFbeta), dynamic compression applied for 12 h per day led to significantly greater proteog...

The Effect Of Restoration Type On Osseointegration of Dental Implants: A Histological Analysis In Dogs

Background and Objective: The concept of immediate occlusal loading with dental implants offers several advantages. In this research, the effect of type of restoration on Osseointegration rate of dental implants was histologically evaluated. Materials and Methods: Three months prior to implantation, the lower premolar teeth of 15 dogs were extracted. Then, 3 to 4 Maestro™ implants were plac...

Chondroitin sulphate (WF6 epitope) levels in peri-miniscrew implant crevicular fluid during orthodontic loading.

The aim of this study was to monitor changes in chondroitin sulphate (CS; WF6 epitope) levels in peri-miniscrew implant crevicular fluid (PMICF) during orthodontic loading. Ten patients (seven males and three females; aged 22.0 +/- 3.4 years), who required orthodontic treatment with extraction of all four premolar teeth, participated in the study. Twenty miniscrew implants (used as orthodontic ...
